I Raise My Glass.
Copyrighted by Allison Jensen

I raise my glass to the one closest to my heart,
To the person who has been there for me from the very start.
Whether it be that cute little chuckle or something funny that you say,
Here’s to the one who knows just how to brighten my day!

I raise my glass to the one who says what’s on her mind,
To the person who gets frustrated when her words intertwine.
I know that you just want your thoughts to be heard,
So here’s to the family who can look in your heart and understand every word.

I raise my glass to the times that were good,
Back before, when you were always understood.
Though scattered about, there are still some good days here and there,
So here’s to the few wonderful times that you and I have left to share.

I raise my glass to the heavens up above,
For I know that they are awaiting the welcome of someone I love.
That day will come sooner then I’m ready to let you go, the day to say goodbye,
But here’s to you, grandma, for I know someday you will be the brightest star in the sky.

I raise my glass to the soon crowning of the enemy,
To the disease that imprisons the minds of others so selfishly.
You may have won many of the battles, but you sure won’t win the war,
Here’s to the day they find the cure, the day Alzheimer’s disease will be no more!

Dorothy Lucinda Hudgens, my inspiration, and my guardian angel. RIP 4/1/37-10/8/11
